Hi, I’m Scott.
For fifteen years I was an avionics software engineer, specializing in flight management systems, the software that plans and flies an aircraft’s route. I left because I wanted to build more systems of my own and to express myself in the work. AI has made that possible, letting one person build whole systems and shape them around their own vision.
During my entire career, I never stopped building in my spare time: websites, computer graphics, and a lot of hours spent with art and art history. Somewhere along the way I discovered shaders, and I’ve been obsessed ever since with how much they can bring an ordinary image to life. I live in Arizona, and the desert is the best light there is to work with.
What I’m here to do
Visuals like these have usually meant a big budget, a studio and months of work. My goal is to change that: to make living visuals fast, affordable and easy to get for Arizona businesses that want something better than a slideshow on the lobby screen or a stock photo on the website. Many pieces take just a few days, and that speed keeps the cost down for you.
I also make pieces of the desert just because I love it here. Over time they’re growing into a catalog that any business can license for its own screens and sites.
How a piece gets made
- 01
Start with a scene
A piece begins as a still: a photograph of your place, or a desert scene I make with an image model and refine until it looks like the real thing. For a commission you can bring your own photo: your storefront, the view from your patio, your product.
- 02
Separate what moves
Mattes pick the scene apart: sky from land, water from rock, foreground from distance. Each part can then change on its own, so the sky can go from sunset to night while the saguaros stay exactly where they are.
- 03
Write the light
The motion is written as shaders, small programs that run on the graphics card. I build them with an AI coding agent: I bring the eye and the taste, the agent helps write the code, and we iterate until the light does what the real desert does.
- 04
Run it live
The result is a program, not a video file. It renders in real time on whatever screen it is on, at that screen’s resolution, and never loops the same way twice.
Why this isn’t AI video
I use AI openly, at almost every step. The difference is what comes out the other end. A video generator takes a prompt and hands back a clip. You can’t reach inside it, and asking for a change means rolling the dice again.
What I deliver is code. Every change of light is there because I chose it, so when something looks off it gets fixed precisely instead of regenerated and hoped for. Effects also stack, so a sunset, drifting cloud, twinkling stars and moving water can all layer on top of each other. And because it runs live, it plays for hours without a visible loop, at the resolution of whatever screen it is on.
What it can’t do
This method has limits, and it’s better you hear them from me up front.
- The scene stays the scene. Light, sky, water and weather can change; the land, the buildings and the framing stay as they are in the photo. The camera can’t fly around, and nothing new can walk into frame.
- It needs a screen with a browser. Pieces run live in a browser, so a smart TV, a small PC or a signage player behind the screen does the job. For players that can only show video, I can render a long loop instead.
- It isn’t a video file. That’s the point, but it also means it can’t be dropped into a slideshow app. I help you get it running.
Working with me
This is a new venture, so there’s no wall of logos here yet. What I can offer is fifteen years of engineering habits: clear communication, careful testing, and doing what I said I’d do.
A commission usually goes like this: we talk about where it will show, choose or shoot the source image together, I build the animation, and then I help you get it running on your screens or website. The source image needs to be in the final aspect ratio you want, since the animation is built around its exact shape. The motion is my call, but if something small doesn’t feel right, I’ll make every effort to clean it up.
